the tenth of december

This was me today…tucked up by the fire, with a cup
of lemon tea, reading the 39 Steps, resting deeply
and throroughly…

…if only!

Today has been another busy day, but your
good wishes warmed me, and after six or seven
more orders are packaged up tonight and
taken to the post office tomorrow morning,
I do indeed intend to curl up on the sofa with
my latest Laurie King. And when I finish that,
I will keep curled up with my notebook and
pencil and make lists of all there is to be
done…

….and then perhaps stay a little longer
on the sofa, until I have the strength to
actually begin upon the doing of those lists.

Wishing you strength and joy to take
you through your own lists in the days
to come.

the ninth of december

the view from the car window as I left
for town this morning

cold, busy day

cold in my head and early to bed

and as I lay in bed, I think
about our mockingbird in the bare
dogwood tree this morning

and think about his song that takes
us sweetly through the days and
nights of the warm seasons

and wonder where he is
at nine o’clock on a frigid winter
night?

“God bless the little things this Christmastide,
all the little wild things that live outside;
little cold robins & rabbits in the snow
Give them good faring &
a warm place to go”

-Margaret Murray
